You do not need to view this lecture, but your staff likely does.  Often entry level staff members enter your employment with no background in anatomy.  Educational requirements for medical and chiropractic assistants fail to adequately address spinal anatomy.  In order to understand what you do, and chart what is occurring with patients accordingly, clinical assistants need a basic understanding of spinal anatomy.

This video is the first of a series of training videos on spinal personal injury claims. This first video is meant to provide your staff entry level training in spinal anatomy.  It is taught by retired doctor and trial lawyer Aaron DeShaw.

The following areas will be addressed in basic terms:

  • Basic anatomical terms
  • Planes of motion
  • Anatomy of the cervical spine
  • Anatomy of the thoracic spine
  • Anatomy of the lumbar spine
  • Anatomy of the pelvic ring, including the ilium, ischium, sacrum and coccyx
  • Joints of the spine
  • Intervertebral discs
  • Commonly injured ligaments
  • Neurology and the spine: Brain, brainstem and cranial nerves, spinal cord, autonomic nervous system, peripheral nerves.

This presentation sets the stage for the remaining sessions in this series on handling spinal injury claims. This series aims to improve your ability to convey information regarding your patients’ spinal injuries in a personal injury setting.

The purchase of a streaming program will allow you to continue to replay the program several times for staff training.
